We are playtesting GroveQuest at the Arizona Renaissance Festival this Saturday, March 28.
GroveQuest is an interactive adventure game we are building for a full booth application at the RenFaire next year. This Saturday is our first live test with real players, and we want your honest feedback to make it great.
You will walk the Faire with your phone, scanning hidden NFC tags at locations throughout the festival. Each tag unlocks a story from one of three ghost character guides — The Squire, The Dreamer, or La Montanita. They ask you questions. You write your answers. By the end, you have a trail of memories from your day at the Faire.
Dress up if you want to. Half the fun of the RenFaire is becoming someone else for the day. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
What to wear:
Expect morning temps around 65-70 and afternoon highs near 80-85. The Faire is entirely outdoors with sun exposure. Wear linen, wool, or light natural fabrics that breathe and move with you. Layers help — mornings are cool, afternoons are warm. Sunscreen, a hat, and a small themed bag or pouch for your phone and water are smart additions. The desert sun is no joke by noon.
This is a free playtest. We are looking for 20 people who want to explore the Faire in a new way and help us build something worth bringing back next year.
What you need:
Meeting Point: Right inside the main entrance, past the ticket booth. Look for Brady. We meet at 9:45 AM, start the quest at 10.

The 3 quest tracks:
The Squire follows the path of courage — swords, jousting, the forge, the shield wall. If you like action, this is your track.
The Dreamer follows the path of wonder — mermaids, flower crowns, food, dancing, wishes. If you like beauty, this is your track.
La Montanita follows the path of wisdom — artisans, storytellers, the desert wind, the mountains. If you like depth, this is your track.
You can follow one track or wander between all three. The game adapts to how you move.
Register below. Only 20 spots. Help us build something worth bringing back. See you Saturday.
